I helped build this rocket in the 'Airframe' class run by AeroNU. This is an L1 rocket which refers to the total impulse of the motor used, which varies between 320-640 N·s.
My focus was on the separations of the rocket as well as the electronics bay construction.
Soldered for the electronics bay (ebay) in the rocket as well as the wiring for the StratoLogger and EZmini.
The separation of the rocket happened on both ends of the ebay via black powder charges. The drogue chute separation occurred at apogee and the main chute at ~180 meters.
The ebay had a two-stage safety mechanism that would detonate a black powder charge on either end delayed from the first detonation. The drogue and main chutes had a signal from the EZmini first, and then from the StratoLogger at a slight delay in case either the board signal failed, the charge didn't detonate, or the separation didn't break the shear pins.
Seperation Design
I designed the ebay stage as high as it could go on the rocket in order to increase the distance of the center of mass away from the motor and center of pressure, which improved the stability.
Results
Successfully seperated drogue and main chutes
Successfully colected data of launch
Successfully recovered rocket in condition to fly again
